As a researcher I am a professor in psychological treatments and interested in implicit and explicit change processes such as training effects (f.i., those of exposure) during psychological treatments or the effects of arriving at new personal meanings. Thus far I have conducted empirical research into the following issues: (1) treatment motivation and therapeutic alliance, (2) prediction and measurement of treatment outcome, (3) the effects of imagery-enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy in severe mental disorders, and (4) treatment of anxiety disorders, burnout, tics, chronic embitterment, and pathological hair pulling and skin picking.
Additionally, I am a BIG-certified clinical psychologist and working as a practitionar. Also, I am chairing master (Radboud University) and post-master (RINO Zuid) training programs of psychologists in the field of mental health care.
