Dr Killian J. McCarthy is a Professor of Strategy at Radboud University -- a university that ranks in the top 100 globally. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Kyiv School of Economics, a Supervisor at the Royal College of Surgeons, a member of the FINDER project -- a €1.2 million Horizon2020 project to stimulate innovation in the FinTech industry -- and a columnist at M&A Magazine.
Killian’s research focuses on the effect of corporate tools -- such as corporate venture capital, strategic alliances, divestitures and, especially, mergers and acquisitions -- on the firm’s financial and innovation performance. He has studied the performance of more than 500,000 acquisitions, mostly in high-tech sectors, such as pharmaceuticals. He is also interested, however, in public policy topics like tax competition and money laundering. His work has been published in top scientific journals such as Research Policy and in high-visibility journals like Harvard Business Review.
Before joining Radboud, Killian was an Associate Professor at the University of Groningen, and a Visiting Professor at Loughborough University London and National Chiao Tung University Taiwan. He has a PhD in Economics from the University of Groningen, Masters Degrees from Utrecht University and the University of Vienna, and a Bachelors from the National University of Ireland, all of which he earned with the highest honours.
