Currently working on the project: "Bordering, Sheltering, Navigating: Performativity along Two Pathways of Irregular Migration". This research project is aims to deliver in depth insights into the ways sheltering practices affect and shape migrant trajectories through Morocco and Mexico. The objective is to unpack and analyze the discourses and multiple/shifting performativities displayed at the interactions between workers from the rescue industry (sheltering organizations) and irregular migrants from Sub-Saharan countries. Through a combination of fieldwork periods in both settings and the use of ethnographic methods, the project promises to contribute to a better understanding of the migration management and control regimes in the African - European and Central American - North American regions; the articulation of care, control, discipline, deservingness and humanitarianism discourses through performativity; and the outcomes of such performativities embedded in sheltering practices in light of people's im/mobility.
