My research examines patterns of language variation and change with the goal of disentangling the role of social, linguistic, contextual, and cognitive factors in language change. Most of my work is based on quantitative analysis of naturally occurring speech, often supplemented by discourse analysis and other qualitative methods. I draw on insights from various disciplines, including variationist sociolinguistics, dialectology, and interactional sociolinguistics.
