My work focuses on exploring the dynamic repertoire of the brain in different conditions, with a particular emphasis on understanding the mechanisms underlying post-stroke brain lesions or traumatic brain injury. My research is driven by the conviction that a better understanding of the brain's complex interactions and dynamics can lead to the development of more effective therapies for patients with neurological disorders.
To this end, I analyse electroencephalogram (EEG) and magnetoencephalogram (MEG) data from patients to gain insights into the functional connectivity of the brain in different states, such as resting or task performance. I use biophysical models, such as the Kumamoto and thalamocortical models, to simulate the activity of neurons and synapses and uncover the underlying mechanisms of brain dynamics.
Moreover, I employ graph theoretical measures and information theory to further pinpoint the most crucial nodes and networks in the brain and to understand how they contribute to the overall dynamics of the system. By combining these tools, I aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay between different brain regions and how they contribute to healthy brain function.
Finally, I aim to translate this knowledge into innovative therapeutic strategies, such as transcranial ultrasound stimulation, to reorganize brain dynamics and accelerate recovery. By identifying and stimulating key nodes in the brain, we may be able to promote more efficient and effective communication between different regions, leading to better outcomes for patients with neurological disorders.
