Guilel has a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Institute of Philosophy, KU Leuven, Belgium (2019). The dissertation is a critical phenomenology of radical forms of political resistance we usually understand as 'abnormal.' The research done was heavily influenced by the works of Georges Bataille, Michel Foucault, and Queer Theory. The study was funded by both the Institute of Philosophy, KU Leuven, and the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). Guilel had research stays at the School of Philosophy, University College Dublin, at the Laboratoire Savoirs, textes, language at the Université de Lille, and the Foucault archives at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.

Following the Ph.D., Guilel was a postdoctoral researcher at KU Leuven and taught at the Politics Department of Amsterdam University (UvA) and the Philosophy Department of Groningen University. During this time, Guilel formulated a new research project concerning the digital crowd, algorithmic rationality, and the rise of new collective agencies in our connected mass societies.
