I specialize in the application of artificial intelligence, remote sensing, and ecological data science to environmental and marine monitoring. My PhD research, conducted within the “Digitizing the North Sea” initiative, supported by Ministry LNV, focuses on developing AI-driven camera and sensor systems onboard ships to support fisheries surveillance, species detection, and compliance monitoring. My goal is to contribute to advancing data-driven decision-making for marine ecosystems and supporting the broader transition toward smart, technology-enabled environmental governance.
I work at the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), as a Treatment and Development employee (Medwerker Behandelen en Ontwikkelen) at the Innovation Laboratory (Innovatielab), the place within NVWA where innovation is fostered, experimented with, and prepared for integration into regulatory and supervisory practice. My current role at NVWA aligns with the digital transformation of North Sea monitoring and I have taken a component of that project to work on as my PhD.
