C. Wijnands (Clim) MA

Clim Wijnands is an art historian specialising in sixteenth-century Italy. His PhD project investigates how sixteenth-century beholders responded to paintings in private collections in ways that were distinctively physical and kinetic. These interactions were influenced by Renaissance paradigms of truth, love, and revelation, and responded to contemporary developments in art theory. Clim is especially curious to find out how touching and moving a painting could shape the beholder's thinking process.

Clim completed a Bachelor in Art History and a Research Master in Art and Visual Culture at Radboud University. In 2017, he was a curatorial intern at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. After graduating, Clim was employed as research fellow at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max-Planck-Institute for Art History in Rome, where he laid the groundwork of his current research.
