The first phase of the PhD track
The first phase of the PhD track revolves around the registration, the organisation of the supervision and the assessment of the doctoral candidate's academic work. If the supervisor is of the opinion that the scientific work can be defended, the next phase will begin.

Enrollment
- A supervisor has expressed their willingness to act as a supervisor.

Registration
- Register dissertation in Hora Finita
- Registration of dissertation in VSNU classification
- Check whether the correct diplomas have been obtained in order to start a PhD track

Setting up the supervision team
- As soon as possible after registration, but definitely within three months, the supervisor will compose a supervision team.
- Of minimum two, maximum four people
- At least two are experts with a doctorate
- At least one member is connected to Radboud University

Drawing up a Training and Supervision Plan
- As soon as possible after registration, but no later than within three months
- Supervisor and PhD candidate jointly draw up the TSP
- Contains agreements between supervisor and PhD candidate with regard to the training and supervision during the PhD track
- It at least establishes:
- The duration of the track
- Composition of the supervision team
- Any obligations of the PhD candidate that are conditional for continued enrolment in the PhD track
- The TSP is approved by a person within the faculty/institute appointed by the Dean.

Recording the scientific work in a manuscript
- If the supervisor is of the opinion that the scientific work can be defended, they will establish the work as a manuscript.
- The supervisor has checked the work for plagiarism.
- The research data management complies with the standard applicable in the academic field.
