Fàtima de la Jara Ortiz
Fàtima always had questions during biology class in high school. The underlying puzzling mechanisms of what would decide if cells would survive or not was a huge exciting incognita to be solved, and she was definitely up for the challenge. She decided to study Genetics in Barcelona, where she was born and raised. However, science is not everything for this girl, who chose to do an Erasmus in Finland. In that way, she could continue her education while exploring a completely different universe she was unaware of. After her bachelor, still hungry for both adventure and knowledge, she went for the Master program Cancer, Stem Cells and Developmental Biology in Utrecht, ending up in the quiet and cute city of Nijmegen. She is currently doing her PhD on the tumour microenvironment and singing a bit too loud in the lab.
Jessica Ramos Sanchez
Jessica is from Mexico. She studied the Erasmus++ Master in Clinical Linguistics as a joint degree between the University of Groningen, Potsdam University, and the University of Eastern Finland. She worked for two years as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, on a project related to speech perception in children with dyslexia. She joined the BabyBRAIN Lab at Donders Institute in 2021 to start her Ph.D. project on active learning and curiosity in typically developing infants and children with autism. In her free time, she enjoys doing long-distance swimming, dancing, writing stories, and participating in activities that support diversity and inclusion in academia and the arts.
