Newsletter 7: From Hora Est to Hora Finita

Radboud University aims at high quality supervision and close monitoring of progress of PhD candidates. A PhD system that supports our needs in this aim is crucial. It has been decided to start using a new PhD system: Hora Finita. In this newsletter we will inform you about this new system and give you an update about the process of the implementation of Hora Finita.

This newsletter will be sent to you quarterly. If you do not wish to receive an update in the future, please send an email to b.edlinger@soo.ru.nl . Suggestions for people to add to the list of recipients are welcome too!

The implementation process of Hora Finita is well on its way. We still aim at going live in January (2021). With this newsletter we would like to inform you about the upcoming activities this autumn: further set up of Hora Finita, migration of data (from Hora Est (PhD) and PhDTRACK) and preparations for going live. Our key users are invited to engage in these activities from September onwards. For all future users of Hora Finita - PhD candidates, promoters, members of the manuscript- Cum Laude- and promotion committees and all the support staff within our Faculties: we will inform you about the transition from Hora Est to Hora Finita in more detail as from October onwards.

Getting the system set up

Key users from our Graduate Schools and Faculty offices are welcome at the monthly Hora Finita user meetings: September 17, 11.00 – 12.30

October 15, 11.00 – 12.30

November 19, 11.00 – 12.30

December 17, 11.00 – 12.30.

You can expect an invitation with the agenda this coming week.

On September 17 we will present the plan for getting Hora Finita’s set-up completed and how we all can cooperate in getting this done. Further meetings for the set-up of Hora Finita will be organized on Graduate School/Faculty level to accommodate specific local set-ups.

All future Hora Finita users can expect more information about the transition from Hora Est to Hora Finita in Radboud Weekly, your faculty newsletter and research website. A few faculties have requested an information meeting. Short instruction manuals will be available for all users. They will be accessible to all users on the Radboud website. As Hora Finita is regarded a user friendly system, the experience is that it is not necessary to follow an instruction session to be able to use Hora Finita.

Hora Finita is aligned with the new promotion regulations

Radboud University is updating its Doctorate Regulations. We have set up Hora Finita according to these new regulations. We aim at implementing both of them simultaneously.

Hora Finita is designed to make life easier and it supports the complete process from the registration of the new PhD candidate, the supervision of the PhD up to the PhD defence.
