Personal data protection project

The Radboud University executive board attaches a great deal of importance to the protection of personal data and bears final responsibility for the exercise of due care when dealing with personal data in accordance with the legally stipulated requirements.

With a view to this, at the end of 2015 a project was initiated at the request of the executive board whose aim was to ensure that the university is compliant with the amendments of the Personal Data Protection Act (Wbp) and to prepare it for the new European legislation, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Stage 1 of the personal data protection project was completed on 1 July 2016. During Stage 2 preparations will be made for the GDPR, which will apply as of 25 May 2018. Stage 2 is expected to run until July 2018.

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) has advisory and supervisory duties, and even after the project ends, will provide support to the representatives of the faculties and Radboud Services in the form of advice. The decentralised privacy organisation, together with the DPO Office, will play a role in relation to the protection of the personal data of staff and students within one’s own faculty or unit.
