Admission Requirements for students with a Dutch university Bachelor's degree
- Applicants who have a Bachelor's degree in Development studies, Cultural Anthropology, non-Western Sociology have direct access to the program.
- Applicants who have a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Communication Science, or Development Economics, Social Geography, History, Political Science (including a research component and with a minor in development studies related subjects) or Regional Studies are not admitted automatically. Before they can gain admission to a Master's Programme, they need to follow a special transition programme (18 ec pre-master) to improve their knowledge of the scientific field.
- Applicants who have a bachelor's degree in another field need to follow a special transition program (pre-master) of 60 ects to improve their knowledge of the scientific field before they can be admitted to a Master's programme.
Candidates have to present a formal and detailed outline of their academic background, together with a statement of motivation. The programme's Admission Board will access the extent and nature of any deficiencies in the candidate's academic background.
Admission requirements for students with a Dutch higher professional education (HBO) Bachelor's degree
- HBO-graduates should have Mathematics as a basic course on VWO-level.
- Applicants who have a bachelor's degree from a Dutch HBO-school need to follow a special transition programme (pre-master 60 ects) to improve their knowledge of the scientific field before they can gain admission to a Master's programme.
Candidates have to present a formal and detailed outline of their academic background, together with a statement of motivation. The programme's Admission Board will assess the extent and nature of any deficiencies in the candidate's academic background.
Admission requirements for foreign students:
Foreign students' prior education must meet certain requirements. The entry level for Master's programmes at Western European universities (including the Dutch) is relatively high.
First and foremost, the foreign certificate, on the basis of which you seek admission, must be at least the equivalent to a Dutch Bachelor's degree obtained at a recognized university (BA or BSc).
