Professional specialisation: Pastoral Studies (English)
The actual situation of the Church in Western Europe is changing. Whereas the autochthonous population is de-churching rapidly, an increasing number of foreigners (students, expats, immigrants, refugees) is church goer. Moreover most dioceses invite foreign priests in the context of reversed mission. These processes started in the ‘big cities’ in the Western part of the country but are now spreading to other parts. Many foreigners wish to participate and take responsibility in the parish but they not always feel welcome and included. For parishioners this is a new situation which causes excitement but also fear. There is uneasiness on both sides. This specialisation focuses on policy issues in church development from the perspective of internationalisation.
