Inclusive language

Inclusive language

If you want everyone to feel involved, and you want your message to really get through, it is vital that you use inclusive language. Inclusive language is language that treats people equally, without distinguishing between he/she/them, or a person’s skin colour, religion, level of education, skills, disabilities or any other irrelevant factors.

This workshop will teach you about the pitfalls and what you need to take into account to make sure that your text does not exclude people.

Who is the inclusive writing workshop for?

For anyone who wants to learn to communicate consciously and avoid making individuals or groups feel excluded through certain word choices or formulations.

We will cover the following:

  • What is inclusive language?
  • Where can things go wrong?
  • ‘Othering’ and asymmetric language
  • Tips and guidelines for inclusive writing
  • Use of images
