Intercultural awareness within healthcare

Intercultural awareness within healthcare

Do you work together with patients, fellow healthcare providers and colleagues from other countries and cultures? Is the answer yes? Then a course Intercultural awareness within healthcare really is something for you.

As a healthcare provider you are expected to have much empathy with the culture of other people. Only when you understand why the patient refuses palliative sedation or why a pregnant woman only starts to get organised for labour during the final stage of her pregnancy, you are able to provide the appropriate care. This is exactly what every healthcare provider enjoys doing most.

Do you work together with patients, fellow healthcare providers and colleagues from other countries and cultures? Is the answer yes? Then a course Intercultural awareness within healthcare really is something for you.

What is the target group of the Intercultural Awareness course?

For everyone who works with patients, fellow healthcare providers and colleagues from other countries and cultures within the healthcare sector.

What is Intercultural Awareness?

Intercultural awareness is the first step to appropriate care and effective patient conversations within the intercultural healthcare.

The central question regarding intercultural awareness is: what can we do to make things easier for ourselves and others? Intercultural awareness provides you with insights into the different dimensions of culture and medical anthropology from a diverse theoretical framework. You recognise the similarities and differences and become aware of your own culture in relation to other cultures. You know what the impact of culture is and you are aware of your own behaviour and its effects. This way you learn to consider the cultural values of others and you gain insight into how to interact and communicate with patients and colleagues from other cultures more effectively. You improve your intercultural skills, causing the interaction with patients and the mutual interaction to be smoother and more relaxed. In other words, fewer instances of miscommunication or misunderstanding, but rather an increase in mutual understanding and connection.

What will you gain from this course?

  • Effective communication.
  • Effective collaboration within healthcare teams.
  • Underlying feelings of understanding and connection.
  • Feelings of success and wellbeing at work.
