Social Dutch V course

Do you want to improve your Dutch language skills even further, for example so you can talk with colleagues or friends about your research, arts and politics? Would you like to participate in discussions at work or with your acquaintances? Do you think it would be fun to be able to talk with your neighbours, for instance about your living environment? Would you like to broaden your vocabulary, practice communication skills and also learn what makes things typically Dutch? Then take part in the Social Dutch V course.

Target group

The course is for international students, employees, PhD candidates or expats who already have prior knowledge of Dutch and who want to learn Dutch for social purposes on and outside their workplace.

Entry level: Halfway to B1 (CEFR)
Level on completion: B1 (CEFR)

Content

What will this course teach you?

Once you have completed the course, you will be able to:

  • to describe a city, village or landscape;
  • talk about the weather;
  • talk about what you do during the holidays;
  • make a proposal;
  • write an informal email;
  • ask for and show directions;
  • talk about means of transport;
  • describe and evaluate food;
  • understand a recipe;
  • tell someone what to do;
  • specify quantities;
  • talk about your house and furniture;
  • compare things;
  • ask polite questions;
  • describe the future;
  • write formal emails;
  • give advice;
  • talk about your health;
  • give compliments;
  • ask for opinions;
  • give your own opinion.

Grammar is always discussed in a communicative context and in functional situations.

For example: When you learn to give advice, you simultaneously learn the verb ‘zouden’ because this verb is often used when giving advice in Dutch.

This course will also cover Dutch pronunciation and interesting aspects of Dutch culture.

The lecturer will speak Dutch as much as possible during the course.

Admission requirements

For this course you need prior knowledge of Dutch. You can sign up for this course, if you have participated in Social Dutch IV.
Have you studied Dutch before? Then make an appointment for an intake interview to discuss which course is suitable.

Fees (excluding course materials)

All of our courses and training programmes are exempt from VAT.

RU students and RU staff FREE**

The person or organisation paying the course fee will receive the invoice after the course has started.

**Conditions

Social Dutch V is offered for FREE to all international students and RU staff who meet the conditions:

1. Please register using the online registration form. Advance payment is no longer possible. You can only register if you have an IBAN number.
Please note that our correspondence will be sent to the email address that you are registered with at Radboud University, so make sure to check your student account(s).

2. If you are a student or staff member at Radboud University, this course is free of charge provided you meet the 80% attendance requirement. Failure to meet this requirement will result in a direct debit of the course fee. ​

3. Please note that students of Radboud University can attend two Dutch course for free. If you want to follow a third Social Dutch course, the students fee of € 227,50.
This expanded/new discount rule applies to new registrations. Course fees paid for previous participation in a Social Dutch course are non-refundable.

Schedule an intake

If you completed Social Dutch IV with us, an intake won’t be necessary and you can immediately sign up for Social Dutch V.
If you are an exchange student who already has some prior knowledge of the Dutch language, registration is preceded by a free intake interview. In this interview your level is assessed. If you have already obtained Dutch as a Second Language certificate, please bring these to the interview, as well as your student pass or student number.
