Academic Writing GOALS

Do you represent an educational institute and are you looking for an effective writing course for PhD candidates, junior researchers, advanced bachelor or master students? The interactive online modules of Academic Writing GOALS enable learners to upgrade their academic writing in English and teachers to provide more personal guidance in class. The following two courses are available:

  • GOALS for Scientific Writing
  • GOALS for Language Development

GOALS

GOALS for Scientific Writing

In this course, participants learn to write an IMRaD paper, containing an introduction, methods section, results section and discussion. We offer a generic version of the course, as well as versions that are geared toward learners in medical and biomedical sciences, life sciences, linguistics and communication, or psychology.

English Scientific Writing - Novo

GOALS for Language Development

This course was designed for learners who struggle with the English language while they need to write a high level and high stakes academic paper. The modules are geared toward speakers of non-European languages that express time, definiteness and other concepts very differently than English. This course is particularly beneficial for speakers of Asian languages like Chinese, Indonesian and Farsi.

How does Academic Writing GOALS work?

  • For whom is Academic Writing GOALS intended?
Academic Writing GOALS can be used in writing courses for PhD candidates, junior researchers, advanced bachelor or master students.

  • How can you use the online modules?
Educational institutes can opt for an all-in-one package, with a Radboud in’to Languages teacher actually teaching the writing classes. Alternatively, an institute can commission a train-the-trainer workshop, which will familiarise the institute’s writing teachers with the online GOALS modules, enabling them to independently teach the course to target groups.

  • How can you fit GOALS into your curriculum?
The course is taught as a flipped classroom. Participants study the online materials and perform interactive tasks prior to class. This leaves ample time in class for collaborative learning and personalised coaching. Students benefit from writing activities guided by the teacher and can ask specific questions.

  • Train-the-trainer
Academic Writing GOALS can, of course, also be used at your own institution. Are you interested in a train the trainer workshop? Please contact us to discuss the options.

  • Tailor-made
In addition to the two courses mentioned above, it is also possible to make your own selection of modules from the available range, tailoring them precisely to the needs of your learners. Are you interested? Please contact Radboud in'to Languages.
