PANalytical Empyrean powder diffractometer
This facility makes it possible to research the underlying atomic and molecular structure of materials and solids, such as the identification of (mixtures of) solids and the determination of crystallinity and unit cells. For its practical applications one could think of identifying very small amounts of drugs in tablets, or determining the structures of very small amounts of cristalline powders.
A powder diffractometer is especially of interest to for example the food or salt industries. It answers questions such as: what kind of solids have formed throughout in the process? Why does a solid suddenly have different properties?
The powder diffractometer is also of interest to the pharmaceutical industry, for example for determining the specific crystalline form of the active pharmaceutical ingredient. Knowledge of crystalline structure also plays an essential role in the development of new drugs and product formulas.

Single crystal X‐ray diffraction is the golden standard in structural chemistry, because the results are directly related to the measured data and no model assumptions are involved. With the crystal structure, the chemist immediately gets access to reliable connectivity and molecular geometry information including chirality.
With our D8 Quest we offer a state-of-the-art machine which can strengthen your competitive position. When developing new compounds or synthetic routes a crystal structure determination can be an essential measurement, especially when the absolute structure plays a role. Also with patent applications or disputes where a specific crystal form (polymorph) of e.g. an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), a structure determination can play an important role.
