RSS03.17 Towards individualized care: sex & gender perspectives in health
This course is a full immersion interdisciplinary experience in sex- and gender-sensitive health. Research is increasingly showing the impact of sex and gender on health and care. Ignoring sex and gender can lead to reduced access to healthcare, delayed and overall suboptimal treatment and worse population health. Sex and gender impact basic research, clinical practice and public health. In our work we address both sex as a biological variable as well as the social, cultural and interactional aspects of gender.
We will explore how these variables affect the health journey of all patients, clients, and our own. We will explore what incorporating a sex- and gender-perspective in health and healthcare means in research, in clinical practice and in public health, applying a broad interdisciplinary view. We will offer you a holistic experience, taking into account both the patient journey as well as your own experience as researchers/clinicians/practitioners. Understanding the interconnectedness of these two perspectives is a central theme of this course.
This week will be a hands-on journey based on design thinking formats and practical challenges. There will be limited frontal lectures and mostly individualized learning journeys. You will have access to the knowledge of international experts in the field, tools and resources for practical application. After this summer school you will be equipped with knowledge about SGSH, practical tools for your everyday work and a critical understanding of your role as a professional.
