Policing persons through borders: Migration law as a mechanism for punitive control
This research project intends to analyse the functions played by control mechanisms developed by EU migration law. This analysis starts taking into account the social, economical and political transformations related to globalization and the changing nature and significance of borders, which are no more related with the defence of «territorial boundaries», but with «policing internal public order». At the same time, migration controls have ever been tackled from a restrictive approach and implies coercive consequences for those people who breaks the social order ruled by the Law. Under this framework is it possible to assert that migration controls plays the traditional role of the formal punitive system?
