Op 28 januari verschijnt Hoera, een boek! van de hand van de Nijmeegse hoogleraar Nederlandse  letterkunde Jos Joosten. Hij schrijft met veel enthousiasme over het vak van de neerlandicus maar schuwt daarbij de polemiek niet. Het levert een meeslepend pleidooi op voor een meer geëngageerde omgang met onze literatuur. The nineteenth-century struggle for the unification of Italy, better known as the Risorgimento, had a profound impact on the shape of English literature, but did not leave a similar imprint on Irish literature. In his latest article Dr Frederik van Dam, assistant professor in European Literature, investigates the work of a few Irish poets that did address the Risorgimento and shows how literature can shed new light on how international conflicts are framed.

On Monday 28 March, ten female PhD candidates from Radboud University will be awarded a Christine Mohrmann Stipend. One of them is Carlijn Cober, PhD candidate on the affective effects of literature at the Radboud Institute for Culture and History (RICH).oad.

Carlijn Cober has won the 2021 OSL Award in the category 'Published Article'. The OSL Awards are intended to acknowledge original and innovative contributions to the field of literary studies and to highlight the work of talented OSL students and scholars.

On Thursday 21 October eight new members joined the Radboud Young Academy. Two of them are Frederik van Dam and Jeroen Dera, both members of the SCARAB research group.

On 29 October, Rob van Essen gave a lecture titled "Go learn a trade!" about his role as a writer and critic in the current literary landscape. Those who missed it can read the lecture as a pdf (in Dutch).

On 15 October Ernest de Clerck (KU Leuven) successfully defended his doctoral thesis. The project was supervised by Tom Toremans (KU Leuven) and Frederik Van Dam (Radboud University).

For many, literature and marketing are considered opposite phenomena. This book discusses cases in which the two are closely connected.
