Op 28 januari verschijnt Hoera, een boek! van de hand van de Nijmeegse hoogleraar Nederlandse letterkunde Jos Joosten. Hij schrijft met veel enthousiasme over het vak van de neerlandicus maar schuwt daarbij de polemiek niet. Het levert een meeslepend pleidooi op voor een meer geëngageerde omgang met onze literatuur. The nineteenth-century struggle for the unification of Italy, better known as the Risorgimento, had a profound impact on the shape of English literature, but did not leave a similar imprint on Irish literature. In his latest article Dr Frederik van Dam, assistant professor in European Literature, investigates the work of a few Irish poets that did address the Risorgimento and shows how literature can shed new light on how international conflicts are framed.

Johan de Meester (1860 - 1931) was a Dutch journalist, literary critic and author. What place did his narrative and critical prose occupy in the Dutch literary field between 1900 and 1920? And what does his prose tell us about the development of the literary field in that period? Aukje van Hout (Radboud Institute for Culture and History (RICH)) subjected the work of De Meester to an analysis to find out. She will defend her thesis on 12 April.

On Monday 28 March, ten female PhD candidates from Radboud University will be awarded a Christine Mohrmann Stipend. One of them is Carlijn Cober, PhD candidate on the affective effects of literature at the Radboud Institute for Culture and History (RICH).oad.

Carlijn Cober has won the 2021 OSL Award in the category 'Published Article'. The OSL Awards are intended to acknowledge original and innovative contributions to the field of literary studies and to highlight the work of talented OSL students and scholars.
