Heritages of Hunger symposium (14-15 December 2021)
On 14 and 15 December 2021, the long-awaited Heritages of Hunger Symposium took place. Although initially planned as an on-site event in the Netherlands, it had to go online due to COVID-related governmental restrictions.
The event brought together experts on various European periods of hunger. Both days consisted of a consortium meeting and a session of public lectures. In the thought-provoking brainstorm meetings with the project’s international consortium and advisory board, participants provided the HoH team with valuable advice for the future and feedback on past research and outreach activities, also focusing on heritages of hunger in museums and heritage initiatives. Moreover, in roundtable discussions and breakout room sessions the partners and the HoH team had fruitful discussions on a wide variety of topics concerning practices of remembering and commemorating famine pasts.
In the public talks, which were open to all, six renowned scholars shared cutting edge insights and answered questions from participants about different periods of hunger across the world. To download the programme, click here (docx, 14 kB).
