The social and economic integration and inclusion of refugees, also called ‘statushouders’ or newcomers, in the Netherlands, is a widely discussed over the past few years, and in 2022 a new Civic Integration Program was launched to improve socio-economic integration. One way to foster social and economic integration, is by stimulating and enabling entrepreneurship amongst refugees. Radboud University’s Hotspot Responsible Innovation & Entrepreneurship, together with RUNOMI and the Centre for Migration Law (CMR), host a seminar on this timely theme, discussing refugee entrepreneurship from a scientific and practical perspective.
We are honored to welcome Entrepreneurship Professor Haya-Al Dajani from Mohammed Bin Salman College for Business and Entrepreneurship (MBSC), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who will give a key-note lecture with a special focus on the Middle-East and refugee women entrepreneurship.
The event is chaired by Dr. Caroline Essers, associate professor Entrepreneurship and Leadership at Radboud University. Radboud PhD researcher Samaneh Khademi will reflect on her findings concerning the barriers and opportunities of Syrian and Iranian refugee entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. The afternoon will close with an interactive round table discussion chaired by RUNOMI’s Director of Research and Societal Impact Dr. Pascal Beckers, in which Migration Law Professor Tesseltje de Lange (CMR) and Dr. Giacomo Solano (RUNOMI), together with two practitioners and/or policy makers, discuss legal, economical, and policy challenges (and possibilities) concerning refugee entrepreneurs. There will be a meet and greet with refreshments afterwards to which all participants and speakers are invited.Programme
