Annual Conference 2020
At the 28th of October RUNOMI's second annual conference was held. Due to the impact of COVID-19 it was held online, which turned out to be a great success with over 50 participants. In line this year's challenges, the conference theme was Migrant inclusion studies in times of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
We started the conference off with a welcome word by RUNOMI's scientific coordinator Dr. Pascal Beckers and RUNOMI member and board member Prof. Dr. Maria van den Muijsenbergh. As a sign of welcome the participants that were located in The Netherlands received a chocolate bar which they could enjoy during the conference.
After the words of welcome the conference started with the pecha kucha sessions. Different researchers had the opportunity to present their work in a brief 6-minute presentation. Followed by a short break the conference continued in the form of a roundtable with Anna Ensing (Fairwork) and Revijara Oosterhuis (Meldpunt Vreemdelingendetentie | Stichting LOS). Then as a final element the word was given to Prof. Katharine Charsley who spoke about her research on "integration and COVID-19: Drawing on insights from marriage-related migration".
We ended the conference with a Virtual Meet n' Greet so that all participants had the opportunity to network and discuss the presentations.
Even though it was held online, the conference turned out to be a great success! We are looking forward to be organizing the conference of 2021, hopefully we will see you there!
