RUNOMI Annual Conference 2022

On 7 July 2022, RUNOMI held its fourth Annual Conference titled 'Perspectives on diversity and migrant inclusion: Contemporary challenges and policy innovations'.


Keynote

The conference was opened with a keynote by Prof. dr. Peter Scholten, who discussed contemporary international perspectives on diversity and migrant inclusion. Prof.dr. Peter Scholten is Professor of Public Administration, with a full chair in the Governance of Migration and Diversity, at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. Peter is in the board of directors of IMISCOE, Europe’s largest academic research network on migration, integration and social cohesion.


Short member presentations

The keynote was followed by two sessions with short presentations in a creative format of some of the current work of RUNOMI-members from four different faculties.
  • Noemi Mena Montes - The Digital Gap: Digital Media Skills and Life Connections for Integration (Faculty of Arts).
  • Miriam Groen-Vallinga - Enduring Roman Slavery. Recognition and reconciliation (Faculty of Arts).
  • Els Rommes - Mental health care for families with a migration background (Faculty of Social Sciences).
  • Emil van Eck - Moving marketplaces: Following the everyday production of inclusive public spaces (Nijmegen School of Management).
  • Samar Al-Tashi - No career, no sense of belonging'; experiences of arabic refugee doctors in the Netherlands (Radboud University Medical Centre).

Panel discussion

In the afternoon, a panel discussion zoomed in on the Dutch context of the new Civic Integration Act and its implications for municipalities and migrants. Pascal Beckers and Ricky van Oers moderated this discussion. The panel consisted of

During the drinks and aftertalk, participants of the RUNOMI Summerschool also presented and discussed their poster presentations.
