Summary of research
- The van Opstal group investigates the the auditory and vestibular systems, in particular the underlying neural mechanisms of sound localization (directional hearing) and eye-head gaze control and balance. We employ psychophysical techniques (behavorial analysis of sensorimotor responses), develop neurocomputational models, and apply our results to technology (robotics) and health-related topics (impaired hearing)
- The van Wezel group studies how activity of groups of neurons results into behaviour. We investigate how visual perception and cognition can be explained in terms of electrical activity in networks of communicating neurons
- The The Kappen and Coolen group investigates machine learning, in particular Bayesian inference, graphical models and approximate inference in medical diagnosis.
