Pre-Master's programmes

Students who have obtained their Bachelor’s degree at a University of Applied Sciences (HBO) and wish to continue with a Master’s programme at the Faculty of Science first need to complete a pre-Master’s programme. This is a transitional programme in which you are prepared for an academic Master’s programme.

The following study programmes offer a pre-Master’s programme:

Bachelor’s programme at a University of Applied Sciences (HBO)

After a four-year programme at a University of Applied Sciences (HBO), you will have obtained a (HBO) Bachelor’s degree. However, such a Bachelor’s degree is generally more focused on practice instead of research, and after completing that programme, you will be fully prepared to enter the job market. It is possible to continue with a HBO-Master’s programme, full-time, or part-time.

At a research university, such as Radboud University, you complete your Bachelor’s programme after three years. After the Bachelor’s programme, your education in research continues in the form of a Master’s programme. In the Master’s programme, you specialise in a specific field of studies and you will be prepared for either a scientific career or the job market. HBO-students with a Bachelor’s diploma are not prepared in the same way for a Master’s programme at a research university as students who have already completed a Bachelor’s programme at a research university. Usually, HBO-students first need to complete a transitional programme: the pre-Master’s programme. (Source: HAN).
