The Institute for Science in Society is home to a community of researchers committed to analyzing, assessing and improving the societal embedding of science and technology. As an interdisciplinary research institute, we combine a plurality of approaches to investigate how scientists, citizens, technology developers or nature conservationists understand the world around them and interact.

ISiS research has a strong ethical component and an ambition to align scientific understanding, socio-technical interaction and socio-ecological transformation to improve the current global condition.

Vision Statement
We encourage dialogue, collaboration and reflection on science with the institutes of the Faculty of Science, via empirical social scientific and philosophical research.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to analyze, assess and improve the societal embedding of new developments in science and technology, through research, education and outreach; to understand how society shapes science as well as how science shapes society.
