ISiS at public event Faculty of Science
On November 18 the faculty of science at Radboud University opened its doors to the public to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The institute for Science in Society contributed to the festivities by organising a scientific integrity dilemma-game. During three rounds Vincent Coumans and Serge Horbach pressed their audience into several challenging situations and potential ways out. The audience was to judge upon the acceptability of the solutions: Is it OK to copy parts of your colleagues paper if he/she agrees with that? Can you send in your paper to multiple journals at once to speed up the publication process? How should you treat (obvious) outliers during data analysis?
The dilemmas led to some interesting discussions and disagreements. Properly behaving like a 'good' scientist turned out to be not so easy after all.
