Green information technology
The Interdisciplinary Research Platform aims to drastically lower the energy demand in the coming decades via innovations in IT. To realise our goals, we actively engage with societal and industrial partners.
With our fundamental research, we lay the foundations for an era of energy-efficient hardware (greening of IT) and we work on smart software solutions that contribute to the sustainable development goals (greening by IT).
Greening of IT
Material scientists at the IRP work on futuristic new ways of data storage and data processing. What if we could switch magnets with light? And what if we could store information on polymer molecules or even on single atoms? All these radical new ideas could become reality in the coming decades.
Greening by IT
Next to hardware, we also perform research on software solutions that contribute to the sustainable development goals (Greening by IT). Examples are Process Analytical Technologies, Life Cycle Assessment, software-hardware interaction, and the role of AI in Green IT.
- Measures for green process optimization,
- Assessment of the environmental impact of new technologies
