Milou started as a PhD student in the Sensorimotor lab in October 2018. Her research focuses on the integration of sensory and motor signals in self-motion perception, and more specifically the integration of artificial sensory and motor signals. She is mainly interested in targeting the distinction between active and passive self-motion and using brain stimulation techniques to improve self-motion perception. Besides this, she investigates the role of the vestibular system in gravity perception by focusing on people with loss of vestibular function.
Before starting her PhD project, Milou completed the bachelor’s programme in Psychobiology (Universiteit van Amsterdam) and the master’s programme in Cognitive Neuroscience (Radboud Universiteit). During her master, she worked together with Pieter Medendorp, Leonie Oostwoud Wijdenes and Linda Geerligs to unravel neural activity underlying hand choice.
