Your entry in the FSS time capsule

Date of news: 7 November 2022

Annual competition 'Collective memory Faculty of Social Sciences':

Just like last year, the prize will be awarded during this year's faculty Christmas celebration. We are challenging all staff and students to write an entry about the spirit of the current times that deserves a place in the faculty time capsule. This time capsule is held within "DNA of the moment", Janske Hombergen's artwork in the Blue Wing of our building.

Use your own words/images/music to express which social development influenced your studies/work last year.

Social developments impact our work or studies and our personal lives. Sometimes that impact is clearly visible, while in other cases it manifests itself in small incidents. We would like to ask you to use your entry to show us, the jury, the current times in a catchy way. The specific subject and form are up to you, but the most important criterion for the jury is that when the time capsule is opened in thirty years' time, 'the reader' will know which topics/circumstances had an impact on us in the year in question.

In 2021, there were a number of entries that could somehow be linked to the Corona outbreak, how it affected personal relationships, how polarising it was and the shift to digital interaction, especially for work. Whether Corona will still have that impact in 2022 remains to be seen. Sometimes something can only be named as a major influence on the spirit of the times in retrospect. However, that does require it to have been identified, so to that end we challenge you.

The deadline for submitting your entries is Thursday 1 December 2022.

The contest in a nutshell:

  • All students and staff in the Faculty of Social Science can take part.
  • Entries may also come from a duo, or clearly distinguishable group.
