Exemption Requests

Please read the information below carefully before submitting an exemption request. 
N.B. Only current Artificial Intelligence (AI) students may apply for exemptions. Students may submit a request at any time during their studies at AI but not before the first academic month of the first academic year of the programme. Applications submitted before that time will not be processed.

Any student who wishes to receive exemption from one or more components of the bachelor’s or master’s programme in AI (for instance, if the student has completed an equivalent courses elsewhere) must receive approval from the AI Examination Board.

Regulations

The official rules for exemptions can be found in the Education and Examination Regulations (EER).

Exemptions are granted only upon approval by the Examination Board and are not guaranteed.

Providing incorrect or misleading information when applying for an exemption constitutes academic fraud. Any applicant found in violation of the academic integrity rules will be subject to sanctions.

Submitting an exemption request

You can make an exemption request by submitting the Exemption Request Form (pdf, 155 kB) along with your supporting documentation to the Examination Board (excieai@ai.ru.nl).

Students will only be granted exemptions if they can provide both the necessary evidence (e.g., transcripts and/or examination certificates) and a description of the academic component or other relevant experience. All supporting documentation must be duly authorized by the educational institution or organization where the student completed the academic (or occupational) component or other relevant experience.

The following documents are required for an exemption request:

• one exemption request form per course
• specific documentation, as outlined on the exemption request form
• other supporting documentation, where applicable

The application form and supporting documentation can be submitted by sending an e-mail to the examination board (excieai@ai.ru.nl), using the subject line “Exemption Request”.

An exemption request will only be processed if all the necessary documents have been submitted along with the application. Signatures from course instructors are not to be obtained by students.

Decision

The Examination Board communicates the decision by email. Processing times may vary. The Examination Board needs 10 days to process exemption requests.
