Mental sports coaching

Mental Sports Coaching by Fontys is a coaching agency based in the Radboud Sports Centre, that offers individual ticket hours and  workshops. Based on the idea that a good balance between physical, social and mental health ensures vitality and happiness, the goal of this coaching agency is to support and improve the mental health and performance of athletes and employees.

In November 2020 Nicole Ebben from Fontys won the ENAS Award with the project "Mental Sports Coaching". This annual award supports the innovative development of projects by institutions that contribute to the development and recognition of Student Sports and can serve as inspiration for your colleagues abroad.

For whom is it?
Anyone who has a question about exercise and health, setting goals or improving performance can consult Mental Sports Coaching. Ticket hours and workshops are free of charge for everyone who has a subscription to the RSC.

Ticket hours Mental Sports Coaching

During a ticket hour of 45 minutes you will be accompanied by an applied psychologist with a specialization in sports and performance coaching, who is also supervisor of year-end graduates and Applied Psychology graduates who gain practical experience within the agency. The consultations consist of efficient and practical conversations where, after the first session, tools can be offered to get started. Registering for the first time is done through the ticket system. Any follow-up sessions can be planned together.

Workshops Mental Sports Coaching

The workshops of the coaching agency Mental Sports Coaching combine theory and practice. You will receive information and will immediately start working on it yourself.  Under the schedule, you will find more information about the content of each workshop.

The workshops are offered online as a ticket hour. You can register via our website or the RSC app.

Content of the workshops

Positive self-talk
In this workshop, you will work with positive self-talk, a much-used technique from sports and performance psychology. On the basis of theory and practical methods, insight is given into your own thought patterns and what influence this has on how you feel and your behavior. Tools are offered to challenge thoughts and to convert them into effective positive thoughts. The workshop ends with writing a script in accordance with the technique of positive self-talk, including cue words suitable for you that you can use immediately. After this workshop, you will succeed in having more control over your thoughts, which will improve your performance.

Concentration, attention and focus
How do I stick to my job? What are my attention preferences and what can I do if my focus at individual or team level is not in the right place? Where should my focus be in the team in different situations? Here too, it can be concluded / linked with how to stimulate this with feedback from the other. How can team members help each other to get the right focus.

Goalsetting (We all love success!)
In the workshop you will get started with setting goals according to sports psychology. In addition to theory, the performance profile is used, which clearly shows where the profit can be achieved within your work or study at an individual level. Subsequently, the workshop works with performance and process goals. Ultimately, we will work towards a concrete weekly action plan. This practical mental techniques you can immediately apply in your personal situation or in your sport, work or study for yourself or someone else.
