Advent and Christmas 2023

On Sunday December 3 begins the festive season, the liturgical preparation period for Christmas - the birth of the Light of the World, Jesus, Son of God and Son of Mary.

Every Sunday, there is a oecumenical service at 11.00 in Dutch and a eucharistic service at 17.00 in English:

  • Sunday December 3 at 11.00: Theme of this week’s service is: sacred dance. Presided by university chaplain Nicole Schubert. A meditation session is offered afterwards.
  • Sunday December 3 at 17.00: you can bring your home made ADVENT WREATH to church and Fr. Joseph will bless them all together during Holy Mass. Presided by neomist Erik Buster.
  • Sunday December 10 at 11.00: This service will be presided by the religion discussion group and Rev. Marieke Fernhout.
  • Sunday December 10 at 17.00: Three students will receive sacrament of Confirmation. Presided by auxiliary bishop Everard de Jong.
  • Sunday December 17 at 12.00 (!):Festival of lessons & Carols. During this service, we will be reading nine scriptures that tell the story of the creation and the coming of Christ, Light of the World. The Nijmegen Students’ Choir Alphons Diepenbrock will sing famous English Christmas carols for and with us. Presided by Rev. Marieke Fernhout.
  • Sunday December 17 at 17.00: you can bring the statue of the BABY JESUS from your home nativity scene for blessing during Holy Mass. Presided by Jos Geelen.
  • Sunday December 24 at 17.00: Holy Mass in English on the fourth Sunday of the Advent period. Presided by university chaplain Jos Geelen.
  • Sunday December 24 at 21.30: oecumenical midnight service in Dutch. Presided by university chaplain Nicole Schubert.

  • Monday December 25 at 17.00: Holy Mass in English on Christmas day. Presided by university chaplain Jos Geelen.
  • Tuesday December 26: no service!
  • Sunday December 31 at 17.00: Holy Mass on New Year’s eve in English. Presided by university chaplain Jos Geelen. This mass is preceded by the Silent Adoration and the Blessed Sacrament from 15.00 – 17.00. You are welcome to come and go as you please.
  • Monday January 1: no service!
  • Sunday January 7 at 17.00: Holy Mass in English for the Epiphany. Presided by university chaplain Jos Geelen.

The following services will take place throughout the week:

  • Tuesday at 12.45: Eucharist service in English
  • Wednesday at 7.30: candle light mass in English (see photo above), with breakfast afterwards. If you want to join, please send an e-mail to Fr. Joseph: joseph.geelen@ru.nl.
  • Wednesday at 12.45: afternoon Taizé prayer
  • Thursday at 12.45: Eucharist service in English
