Inleiding
In this masterspecialisation, you will learn how diversities like ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual preference or socio-economic class may influence the kinds of problems children and youth experience, how they express these and in which ways you need to take these diversities into account as a professional pedagogue.
Taking diversity into account as a professional
You will take four obligatory courses. In the course ‘Dealing with diversities in Care', you will learn about the different target groups, you will reflect on your own prejudices and ethics, and you will practice with case studies how to be sensitive to backgrounds and context of these groups. This course is only accessible for those who follow the whole master. Furthermore you will take courses on coaching, complex systems, and on juvenile law, policy and ethics. Additionally, Dutch students who aim to get their 'klinische aantekening' need to follow the Diagnostiek course.
In this program you can focus on policy, research and/or counseling. Moreover you can choose a specific target group or theme (e.g. ethnic minorities, sex, sexuality) and follow courses like ‘Gender theories and equality policies', 'Poverty, Wellbeing and Social Justice', 'Migratie en Interreligieuze Studies', 'International perspective on treatment and care of individuals with a disability'.
It is encouraged to match both the practical training and the writing of your master thesis with the subject of your interest. We will facilitate following your practical training abroad in the Spring semester.
