ContentIn what ways do the philosophical and Christian traditions shape gender? How have feminist reflections on gender relations changed over time? What is the relation of gender and race? And what happens to gender when a postcolonial lens is applied? In this minor you learn about the philosophical, theological, and postmodern backgrounds and constructions of sex and gender in Western tradition and culture. The first course deals with the history of feminist ideas from the Middle Ages until the 21st century. In the second course we will look into contemporary theories of gender and race, with an emphasis on the role of the body. The third course focuses on postcoloniality and examines the ways in which conditions of globalization and decentering of the West affect theories, practices and imaginations of gender and religion. |
