Diversities in Youth Care

In this master's track, you will learn how diversities like ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual preference or socio-economic class may influence the kinds of problems children and youth experience, how they express these and in which ways you need to take these diversities into account as a professional pedagogue.

In the course ‘Theorizing diversities in care’, you will get a solid theoretical base on how and which diversities matter in care. During the course ‘Dealing with diversities in care', you will be provided with various case-studies, exercises and training elements, in which you will reflect on your own prejudices and ethics, and practice on how to be sensitive to backgrounds and contexts of various groups.

Within this track, you can focus on counseling or policy and research. Dutch students who aim to get their clinical registration (NVO-verklaring tot orthopedagoog) need to follow the course on Diagnostics, whereas those interested in pursuing a career in policy need to take either ‘Policy, paradigms and human development’.

Moreover, you can choose a specific target group or theme (e.g., ethnic minorities, sex, sexuality) and follow additional elective courses on topics like religion, gender and sexualities or developing countries.

It is strongly encouraged to match both your internship and the writing of your master thesis with the subject of your interest. We will support you in following your internship abroad in the Spring semester if you so desire.
