De BTL bevat de data uit de BTL 4, aangevuld met de teksten van alle Latijnse edities van de Bibliotheca Scriptorum Graecorum et Romanorum Teubneriana.
De BTL onderscheidt 4 periodes:

• Antiquitas (A): vroegste tijden tot eind van de tweede eeuw
• Infima Antiquitas/Aetas Patrum (Inf. A/P): vanaf einde van de tweede eeuw tot 735
• Medium Aeuum (M): 736-1500
• Recentior Latinitas (R): 1501 tot heden
