Responsibilities

For a study on the effect that co-speech hand gestures may have on the way a speaker is perceived we are looking for a student assistant who can create and run an online experiment. For this, existing video material from a previous experiment on this topic will need to be adapted so that the speakers in the videos are anonymized, and only their movements, but not their personal characteristics, are visible. In addition, a version of the material needs to be made in which the speakers can be seen but there are no body movements.

What we expect from you

  • You are a bachelor or (research) master student in a relevant field of research (such as (psycho)linguistics, cognitive science, communication studies, psychology, or related).
  • You are fluent in Dutch and/or English.
  • You are an independent, proactive, reliable and conscientious worker.
  • You have an interest in research in multimodal communication.
  • You have experience coding and/or are willing to learn coding or other technical skills for using tools that can anonymize speakers and remove gestures from videos.
  • Experience in running (online) experiments using tools such as Prolific and Qualtrics will be an advantage.

Notes about the conditions of employment
Salary scale SA: minimum of €18,69 euro gross per hour (excl. holiday allowance, holiday money, public holidays and end-of-year bonus). The working hours are flexible. Ideally, you work for about 8 hours per week for 16 weeks, but working fewer hours over a longer period of time or more hours in a shorter period of time can be discussed. This position lasts from 01-03-2026 until 30-11-2026.
