Linköping University (LiU) was founded in 1975 and has since grown into one of Sweden’s most innovative and forward-thinking institutions. Today, it is a multidisciplinary university with a strong international profile. Each year, Linköping University welcomes a large and diverse group of exchange students, contributing to an open and globally minded academic environment.

With around 44,000 students across its campuses, LiU is known for its dynamic study culture and close connection between research, industry and education. The main campus, Campus Valla, is located just outside the city center. Thanks to the many international students and collaborative programmes, the atmosphere on campus is friendly, welcoming and multicultural.

Linköping itself is a young, lively city with a strong student presence. Although it is one of the larger cities in southern Sweden, Linköping remains compact and easy to navigate—most places can be reached by bike or on foot. The city center offers cafés, parks, bars, and a wide range of student activities, making it an energetic and engaging place to live and study. The surrounding landscape with forests, lakes, and nature reserves further adds to Linköping’s charm, offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor life year-round.
