Op deze pagina plaatst het International Office van de Rechtenfaculteit verschillende Summer en Winter schools die mogelijk interessant zijn voor studenten aan onze faculteit. Dit is slechts een overzicht, dus het kan zijn dat niet alle schools erbij staan.

De Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid biedt geen beurzen aan voor Summer/ Winter schools. Wel kun je soms als student van onze faculteit, met korting deelnemen aan Summer/ Winter School. Die plaatsen we dan ook in het aanbod hieronder.

Aanbod 2025/2026:

Belgium

The University of Antwerp offers several summer and winter courses. The winter courses include, among others:

  • Crisis Governance, 2-6 February 2026:Through real-life case studies, interactive assignments, and insights from top academics and industry professionals, you will learn how to analyse, manage, and communicate during complex crises.
  • Critical Approaches to Global Food Law and Policy, 2-6 February in Antwerp, June/July 2026 in Rome: Learn from academics and practitioners about the key legal and policy aspects defining how food production, circulation and consumption are organised and governed in today’s globalised world.
  • European Solidarity in the Making, 2-6 February: Explore what European solidarity stands for in the global context of international migration. Experts from various disciplines will introduce you to its social and political implications. In Brussels, you will engage with policymakers on current EU issues and tensions, while activities with migrant support initiatives in Antwerp provide first-hand experience of the reality.

Catholic University Leuven: Europe Inside Out, 22 June: 3 or 10 July 2026(this course has a two-week and a three-week option)
During this short-term programme jointly offered by the Faculties of Economics & Business, Arts and Social Sciences you have the option to study for 2 or 3 weeks. The course will include lectures on Doing Business with Europe(ans); Policies & Politics in the EU; Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Europe and Social & Cultural Interactions. Participants will also visit Brussels, Antwerp and Paris.

University of Strasbourg Summer School: The European Identity: Past, Present, and Future,from June 16th to 26th, 2026.
During these two weeks, you will attend high-quality interdisciplinary courses exploring various aspects of European culture, politics, law, history, as well as society, taught by renowned professors and researchers with international experience. This broad scope of topics will provide an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of European integration, governance, and global challenges. Academic courses will go hand in hand with meetings and discussions with representatives of European institutions, as well as guided tours, in order to discover the unique cultural heritage of Strasbourg’s region, located at the very heart of Europe.

Honours Summer School
The Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School (NAHSS) is a national honours programme that aims to prepare excellent students for a future with China and Southeast Asia as big players on the global stage. Participants gain knowledge on this part of Asia through a preparatory track and summer programme that include academic, business, and cultural aspects. Students from various universities and studies work together on a consultancy project, participate in lectures by Asia experts, visit large multinationals, and travel to Asia or the summer programme.

Taiwan

From July 3 to July 23 2025, the National Taiwan University in Taipei (NTU) organizes this three-week program, which will explore the intersection of law and data, covering critical topics such as data privacy, artificial intelligence regulations, digital finance, and emerging legal challenges in the digital era. In addition to engaging in lectures and discussions, students will have the opportunity to visit leading law firms, technology companies, and key institutions, gaining first-hand insights into Taiwan’s legal and technological landscape.

Austria

univie: summer school for International and European Studies, Universität Wien.
From 12 july until 9 August 2025, this program provides a multidimensional survey of the present development of Europe and the European Union (EU). Participants will study both the decision-making processes within the EU institutions as well as various aspects of European political culture. The program aims at contributing to an increased understanding of the EU and its possible future shape. Courses are offered in three fields: European Studies, Austrian Arbitration and German Language.

Summer Schools at the University of Antwerp
In June, July and August, 
University of Antwerp offers several summer schools, specifically at the Faculty of Law. 

  • Companies crossing borders, 23-27 June 2025: Expanding a business across borders isn’t just about ambition—it’s also about navigating mergers, tax rules, labour laws, and international contracts like a pro.
  • Animal Law, Rights and Representation, 25-29 August: Baah-lancing rights: Do some animals have more rights than others? Gain insight in animal law as a legal discipline, learn about animal rights and find ways to represent animals in court.
  • Legal Technology and Legal Innovation, 25-29 August: Code your way through the future of law by learning how to work with Python. By the end of this summer school you will understand the basics of legal tech and its evolution in the legal world.

University of Antwerp with Università Roma Tre: Food Systems Law and Policy
The University of Antwerp partners with the Roma Tre University in organizing a summer + winter school programme. The programme consists of two modules that are part of the programme, and candidates are required to complete both modules. The course provides theoretical fundamentals and an exceptional hands-on exploration of  the global food governance arena, with visits and exchanges with representatives of the UN Committee on World Food Security, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, and the World Food Programme.

KU Leuven: Global Challenges for our Sustainable Future, Winter School
In this Winter University, you will work in multinational and multidisciplinary student teams to identify, elaborate on and formulate a possible strategy to deal with global challenges for a sustainable future. Experts from the KU Leuven faculties of ArtsEconomics and Business, Social Sciences, and Theology and Religious Studies introduce and illustrate the broad theme of sustainability from the Humanities point of view, using several cases. Each student team delves into a self-chosen global challenge and formulate a possible evidence-based approach to a sustainable future.

Czech Republic

Energy Policy & Security of the EU, Masaryk University Brno. 13 until 26 July 2025

With 8 teachers covering the different topics, students are exposed to a wide range of considerations into holistically understanding what it takes to create energy policy, and the perceived effect on the industrial and social sectors. Misunderstanding of differences and specifics in different EU regions creates unnecessary friction and may result in disputes. This course specifically looks at the case of the Czech Republic and Central/Eastern Europe, highlighting how this region must balance EU policy, with the logistics of the region.
The courses will be arranged in an intensive and dynamic form, each working day there will be an academic session. In the afternoon and evenings students come together from across disciplines to enjoy everything Brno has to offer!

Gender-based Violence and Human Rights
From 8 to 17 August 2025, participants will be part of a diverse group of students and professionals from various countries and fields, all sharing a common interest in human rights, as well as the prevention and response to gender-based violence.
As part of the academic program, we will explore: Law: The development of international human rights conventions and what they offer survivors today. Justice: Our focus will be on the conditions under which survivors perceive criminal proceedings as just, as well as the specific barriers marginalized groups—such as people with migration experiences—face in accessing justice. Survivors' Experiences: In practice-oriented workshops, we will address trauma and its impacts, learn the basics of crisis intervention and appropriate communication strategies for engaging with survivors. Our keynote speaker for this year's program is JUDr. Kateřina Šimáčková, Ph.D., Judge at the European Court of Human Rights.

Freie Universität Berlin International Summer University.
From 7 June until 19 July (Term II) and from 26 July until 23 August (Term III) 2025, the Free University of Berlin offers several interesting courses for their summer school. Ludwig Maximilians-Universität München: European Studies Winter (or Summer) School Munich and Vienna
The course is designed to introduce the complex political and institutional landscape of the European Union. We will explore the EU's governance structure, focusing on the challenges it faces and the innovations that have emerged in response. We will begin by examining the history and evolution of the EU, from its origins as the ECSC to its current form. We will then delve into the various institutions and decision-making processes that make up the EU, for example the European Commission and European Parliament. We will also explore some of the key challenges facing the EU, including issues of democratic legitimacy, migration and security, and economic governance.
Note that this course is offered partially in Munich and Vienna and that you can apply for a Winter or a Summer cohort! The LMU also offers a German language course.

Ludwig Maximilians-Universität München: Munich International Summer University (MISU)
The LMU Munich offers exclusive courses or short-term research programs that cover the whole gamut of the natural sciences, social sciences, economics, and the humanities. MISU offers programs for all levels of study – for international bachelor’s, master’s students. The Law faculty offers two interesting courses:

Intergenerational Justice at University of Cologne
Cologne Summer Schools invites international students to Cologne to explore questions of intergenerational justice and sustainable future visions. The summer school is open for all majors and approaches the subject in trans- and interdisciplinary perspectives. The academic program is clustered in five sections focusing on recent research as well as urgent socio-political aspects of (inter-)generational issues. Through lectures, seminars and group projects the participants will engage in discussions on intergenerational justice and future visions in the fields of economics, social sciences, politics, law, history, education and environmental and cultural studies.

Pázmány Summer School: Law and Language, 16 - 27 June 2025The Habsburg Empire was a remarkable example of a multilingual and multiethnic polity in European history. Stretching across Central and Eastern Europe, the empire was home to a diverse array of peoples, including Germans, Hungarians, Czechs, Slovaks, Poles, Ruthenians, Croats, Serbs, Romanians, Italians, Romani people, and Jews, among others. This diversity was reflected in its administration and culture, with Budapest serving as a key hub. The city's role as a bridge between East and West echoes the Habsburg tradition of balancing diverse peoples and cultures. Gain hands-on experience with translation techniques and step into a translator's booth to see how it all comes to life. Summer school Gender Equality and the Law, University of Sussex, 30 June until 18 July 2025. 
On this programme, you’ll look at the relationship between law and gender. You’ll explore different areas where law interacts with, and regulates, gender relations, while also introducing feminist legal theory. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of current affairs. The module is framed around feminist theory. You’ll gain a basic understanding of how this can be applied to law and the impact of laws upon gender equality. This is a first-year module. You won’t be required to have a background in Law or Politics. You’ll benefit from the research expertise in the School of Law, Politics and Sociology including to the School’s research centres of: Gender Studies, Human Rights Research and the Study of Sexual Dissidence.

From January 27th to February 18th , In addition to the regular classes, students in this program will deepen their understanding of Japan during field trips to Japan’s cultural industries and historically rich places like Kyoto and Osaka. International Summer Research Program, Universidad de Guanajuato, Mexico
The International Summer Research Program is an eight-week summer program offered by the International Office of the University of Guanajuato. It seeks to provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to gain training and mentorship in scientific research, alongside cultural immersion. Participants will conduct 8 weeks of research on a chosen faculty (under which Law, Politics and Humanities) and present a poster/presentation of the results. Hereby, several cultural activities are organised. 
Interesting: the university covers the program fee entirely!

South-Africa

University of Cape Town, South Africa;
From 13 January to 1 February 2025 the UCT offers a wide range of summer schools (note that the seasons shift compared to the Netherlands!). Even though there is no specific law offer, the UCT offers a wide range of different kinds of topics. From Literature and Art to History and from Economics to Politics, the UCT offers them all. The 2025 programme is emblematic of outstanding scholarship and intellectual rigour, presented by staff, post-graduate students, past and retired university staff, as well as thought leaders, authors, luminaries and scholars from South Africa and across the world, many with deep ties to the university.
