Go abroad: why and when?

The Faculty of Arts has plenty of opportunities for students who are interested in studying or interning abroad. Nearly all programmes offered by the Faculty of Arts have international contacts. In many cases, you can draw on the networks of other programmes as well.

For many students, studying or interning abroad is an unforgettable experience. It helps you focus on your personal development, forces you out of your comfort zone and is the perfect opportunity to learn or master a foreign language. In terms of job prospects, employers often consider time spent abroad to be a real advantage.

Going abroad as a Bachelor's student

A stay abroad is possible within your 3 year Bachelor's programme. Please find below the information that applies to your situation.

You can go abroad within the free elective space of 30 ECTS in your third year. In general, the free elective space consists of 15 EC in the first semester and 15 EC in the second semester of B3. If you go abroad, the first semester consists entirely of free elective space (30 EC). More information and a schematic overview of both options can be found here.  The details regarding the replacement of any missed major courses from BA3 semester 1 will be published in the EER of 2026-2027, which becomes available in the course of July 2026.

You can do the study abroad minor in the first semester of your third year. You can also choose to do your electives abroad or make the stay abroad an extracurricular part of your programme. Please contact International Office Arts and your student advisor if you have plans for a stay abroad.

Going abroad as a Master's student
