Summer schools
Summer schools are a great opportunity if you would like to have a taste of how it feels like to be an exchange students before venturing away for a whole semester, or if you would rather study abroad for a shorter period. A summer school offers you a unique opportunity to broaden your horizons, to make new international friends, and in many cases it even allows you to get missing credits!
For the academic year 2025-2026 our faculty offers the following number of summer school grants:
- 5 for European destinations (including the UK)
- 3 for non-European destinations
Each academic year the number of grants will be reassessed.
To keep in mind
- The language of instruction: in many cases is the language of the country, this is the case in most South-European countries.
- Application deadline for the summer school at the host institution. In most cases ‘first come, first serve’ applies. Make sure you apply in time!
- Although it is often possible to receive a 'short stay grant' from the faculty or another institution, there are still some costs you will have to pay yourself as the grants are not full-funding grants. Be prepared.
- For summer programmes offered in the United States, keep in mind that fees and travel expenses can be fairly high.
- You need to obtain some credits to qualify for the grant.
Where can I go?
Many universities offer summer programmes, typically held between June and August, with durations ranging from one to six weeks.
While students are expected to search for summer schools independently, the IMO has compiled a list of suggestions:
Please note that the IMO cannot guarantee the quality or content of these courses, nor can it be held responsible for them.
Didn’t find the university or destination you had in mind? Visit the website of Student Life and International Mobility for additional suggestions and special offers. You may also consult the websites of Nuffic or Europe Summer School..
To qualify as a Summer School, the programme must take place at a university. Courses at universities of applied sciences are not eligible, as no credits can be awarded for them.
Additionally, grants are not available for Summer Schools focused on language courses.
Students need to obtain some credits in order to get a grant.
